Member of the Month

Congrats to Member of the Month Trish M! Many of you know her as our events planner, some of you know her from her 5:45am strength sessions and some of you know her from her 8:30pm WODs. If you don’t know her, here is a little Q&A. Great job Trish, keep it up!

1. Why did you start doing CrossFit?

I came to CFM as a last ditch effort to lose some weight. I was at a low point in life and knew that I needed a change, mentally and physically. Like many people, I was really intimidated by the space and the incredibly fit people I found inside; but I knew I needed this and would not let myself quit.

2. How long have you been coming to CFM?

Almost a year and half, I started in the middle of March 2014.

3. What is your favorite part about CrossFit?

Constant improvement. I’m always trying to get better and not every day can bring a PR but every day is a step in that direction. I like focusing in on one movement, working on it and then seeing improvement. When I started I couldn’t do a single real push-up and I was so pissed about it. So I started doing 50 push-ups every day; on the stairs in my house and sometimes under my desk at work, until I got better. Last week I did 49 push-ups in two minutes. These little accomplishments motivate me to keep setting and working towards new goals. Every day CrossFit gets me to do something I didn’t think I could. Each WOD gives me anxiety, and I am always mentally telling myself I can’t do it…but I always do, I always finish and that feeling is unmatched by anything.

4. What are some of your favorite exercises or workouts that we do?

I actually like them all. I enjoy WODs that include my strengths because there is less of a mental struggle to get through them, and I appreciate WODs that include my weaknesses since I know they’re forcing me to work on something that I really need to. If I had to choose one movement as my favorite I’d say thrusters. For me, thrusters are a mental and physical beast…but once I get going and accept that my body wants to kill me for doing them, I love the quickness of the movement and popping the barbell overhead. I also LOVE chippers…and couplets, squats, American kettle bell swings, sprinter sit-ups, handstand push-ups, and of course olympic lifting.

5. What are your least favorite exercises or workouts that we do?

Not much, but 100m into any run, I am ready to call it quits and max height box jumps scare the hell out of me!

6. How has CF affected your life?

How hasn’t it? I’m in my best shape ever and have more confidence in pretty much every aspect of my life. The sense of accomplishment I feel after a tough WOD is certainly transferable to the day to day. I am stronger and more active and energetic than I’ve ever been. I can’t imagine trying to keep up with a toddler in my pre-CrossFit body! I’m more aware of my body and the control we have over how it functions and what it looks like. I eat clean to support the demands this type of training has on my body; and my eating habits have rubbed off on my daughter, which I love! And then there is the beautiful community and friends that I’ve made at CFM. I’ve found some of the strongest, most supportive and inspiring people inside our box and I can’t imagine where I’d be right now without them. We are all so different yet have this common bond and its truly an awesome thing to be a part of.
