    When I first heard about Crossfit, I was intimidated and intrigued at the same time.  Overweight and in the worst shape of my life, I knew something had to change.   I had no idea what to expect when walking into Crossfit Massapequa for the first time.  There, I met Coach Rich, and he took me through a basic Crossfit workout.  I was sore for days. This convinced me I had to give it try; after all, I had nothing to lose but weight.

    The results and progress I have made over the past several months have been above and beyond my expectations.  I came to CFM to lose some weight and get healthy.  I never thought I would fall in love with weightlifting.  It has made me stronger than I could ever imagine. I’m extremely proud of my results so far, but even more excited to see what the New Year will bring.  To date, I've lost a total of 47lbs and that's just the beginning.  Strong and confident are my ultimate goals, not to get skinny or to look like anyone else; just the very best version of myself.

    I don’t know where I would be without the support and motivation from my coaches; they truly are amazing guys to be around.  They make all the members feel welcome and at home in their gym.  Rich, Steve, Brian and Phil, are the reason I haven’t given up even though there are times I want to.   Not only have they helped me achieve my fitness goals but they turned me into an athlete.  I couldn’t have asked for more amazing coaches and I am forever grateful.  I haven’t forgotten the person  I was when I started; she walked in 8 months ago and never looked back.

    I started Crossfit Massapequa about 3 months ago.  Since then I have not only lost 11 lbs, but I have gained confidence, strength, and a new healthy attitude.  Its not just about "going to the gym" its about living a healthy lifestyle, becoming physically fit, gaining strength, muscle, and confidence.  The best part about it, is you not only receive the support and training from the amazing coaches, but the support, recognition, and motivation from every member as well.

    I have struggled with my weight, appearance and my self esteem most of my adult life.  I have tried numerous diets and joined multiple gyms to find myself making excuses and eventually failing.  I was very unhappy and unhealthy and truly hated who and what I was becoming. I knew I needed to make a change.  I needed to do something I enjoyed, would keep me motivated and show me results.

    I have a cousin who also struggled with her weight, who started Crossfit a few months earlier. She told me how her perspective on exercise and fitness had changed to the point of addiction. I decided to look into it to see if this is what I was looking for. Was CrossFit the answer to my fitness prayer? After a few weeks of watching videos and reading articles I said to myself that enough was enough ... It's time to make a change.  The next morning I joined Crossfit Massapequa.

    My experience with CrossFit has been terrifying, exciting, painful and challenging all at the same time. I struggle, ache and sometimes think I want to quit, but I push through and finish every workout I start. The next day I find myself going back for more. I can honestly say "I love CrossFit."  I love how it has not only changed me physically but mentally as well.  When I complete my WOD (Workout of the Day) I leave feeling accomplished, even if I am the last person to finish.  I feel healthier and happier than I ever have in my life.  It is not about being skinny; I want to be strong, fit and healthy. I now have goals I want to accomplish in both the gym and life, and I know I have the tools to do so.  CrossFit has become a way of life, but sometimes work and family get in the way. No matter what I know the WoD is there for me when I'm ready.

    CrossFit will change you as a person and I am so thankful for my coaches Brian, Rich, Steve and Phil and my now CrossFit Family at Crossfit Massapequa.  They have become my support system and push me daily and for that I am truly thankful. 

    I cannot wait to see what the next year will bring. Being a strong woman is beautiful!

    After going to my doctor for a routine blood test which was followed by a glucose blood test, my doctor told me my sugar level was high enough to be considered diabetic.  At that time I was also more than fifty pounds overweight, inactive, and been previously diagnosed with sleep apnea.  He told me I had two choices.  “Either get use to sticking needles in your arms for insulin shots, or start exercising to burn the excess sugar stored in my body”.

    After telling two of my co-workers about my doctor’s visit, they suggested I look into cross-fit.  I saw some you-tube videos and was impressed with how diverse and intense the workouts appeared to be.  I knew I needed something where I would be motivated by trainers and involved in group participation.  A regular gym would not cut it for me.  So I decided to search online for local cross-fit gyms and found Cross-fit Massapequa.

    As I walked in for my first introductory class, one of their regular sessions was just ending.  I was shocked at the exercises the members were performing and how they all appeared to be in shape.  When they were done they all looked exhausted!  I was scared to death thinking I wasn’t walking out of there alive.  

    I was greeted by Steve and Brian and they conducted an evaluation to determine what my fitness level was and why I was there.  I told them about my trip to the doctor and they told me they could help but it was up to me and how hard I was going to work and insisted on how essential it was to change my diet.  I barely survived the introductory class which had to be cut short because I dry heaved, but after a couple of hours at home I actually felt good and was thinking of going back.    

    I did go back! And after five months of going to Cross-fit Massapequa and dramatically changing my diet, I have lost close to thirty pounds while adding pounds of muscle.  My sugar levels have gone down to normal and my cholesterol went from 289 to 237.  I am still scared when I walk in after a session has ended but I look forward to completing the workout of the day (WOD).
